What is the difference between a detail and a valet?
A detail is more a rejuvenation and protection of the vehicles paintwork. Detailing includes the restoration of the car as much as possible to factory condition, although Hawk often restore vehicles to a level which is better than "showroom condition." The detailing of vehicles is far superior to valeting as a lot more care and attention is applied. A typical exterior detail takes approximately 16 hours of work time. The results are not only exceptional but are also far more durable. The vehicle will look "fresh" wash after wash.

Hawk do offer a maintenance valeting service as we recognise that even prestige vehicles do not require a detail week in week out.

What is clay barring and cleansing of paintwork?
Claybarring is an essential part of cleaning the car's paintwork. This process removes surface containments that are not removed by washing alone. Cleansing of the paintwork is a process carried out to remove any residual waxes or polishes that may be on the car in preparation for the application of a wax or sealant.

Are the cars on your website real cars that you have worked on?
Yes, unlike many of our competitors, every single image on our website is of a vehicle that we have worked on.

I've ordered a brand new vehicle, does it still need detailing?
A new car rarely leaves the showroom with adequate protection as well as a high quality finish. In fact, a brand new car is not always as new as one would think; the vehicle is usually subject to various contaminants in the air during transportation and long storage times. After which, once the vehicle has arrived at the dealership, the vehicle is commonly subject to a quick wash with a sponge and chamois which could cause damage to the paintwork. This is why it is a very good idea to book a premium detail for a new vehicle.

How do I cancel a booking?
Please let us know by phone or text at least 72 hours before the your alloted booking so that we have sufficient notice to make alternative arrangements. Any late cancellations will incur a cancellation fee of £100.

Where do you operate?
For paint protection, paint correction and detailing we operate in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Milton Keynes,  Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire. For maintenance valets we operate in Bedfordshire, Milton Keynes and M1 corridor areas of Hertfordshire only.

Do we need to supply water and power?
We carry adequate fresh clean water with us but require a mains socket to plug in an extension lead that we provide, because we operate high voltage specialist electrical equipment that will only work with very large generators
that tend to be both noisy and unwieldy.

How can I make payment?
We currently take cash, cheques and online banking direct payments. We plan to get set up to take credit and debit cards by the end of the year. Payment is taken when the job has been completed and we will supply you with a full receipt printed with the company header and contact details. On jobs priced at over £250 a deposit may be required.

What hours does Hawk Detailing work?
We are available to start work at pretty much any time in the morning. We aim to work at the client’s convenience. There are no closing times at Hawk as it is often important to work into the evening (light levels permitting), to ensure impeccable results.

What about the weather?
We do carry a portable commercial strength gazebo so if it is wet and not also windy, we can still work. However, the ability to work in a large shelter or garage would be ideal for maintenance level valets and essential for treatments or details. If the weather is very wet or temperatures are below freezing during the winter months, you will be contacted as soon as possible and your detail will be rescheduled at a convenient date.
